I attended an Alec Soth lecture last week (1/26/11) at Marquette University. His signed statement proves it. Many quotes and insights on photography resonated with me, one I took home: “For me, photography is as much about the way I respond to the subject as it is about the subject itself. My portraits don’t reveal all that much about the people I’m photographing. I often say what I’m really photographing is the space between myself and the subject.” - Alec Soth
